#112: Integrating Empathy - Part 2

n part two of integrating empathy, we discuss the tools Jason used to help him engage more readily (with empathy).  This seems to be difficult for so many men, and I thought highlighting the simple (but not easy!) strategies Jason used could be helpful.  You will also notice in this episode that Jason doesn’t mince words when talking about his trauma and prioritizing her pain over it.

Here are the practices Jason thinks most helped him engage empathy:

#1 - Journaling (a combo of self-intimacy work, CBT, mindfulness, grounding).  Jason mentions  this quote from John Maxwell - "For those of you who find journaling overwhelming, just jot.”

#2 - Being fully known with a group of guys.  This helps him learn to be fully known and know others (true intimacy) and also helps with coregulation.

#3 - Jason talks about simply:  fixing it.  He speaks to his trauma taking second place to her pain/relational healing.

#4 - Spiritually - praying to God for help.

Toward the end, Jason talked about how so many wives are just dying for the effort.  And isn’t this the truth ladies - we really need to see his efforts.  The end.
